Press comment: Despite noise of Brexit

Its positive that housing is still on the agenda for Hammond

13/03/2019

Gemma Harle - Press Releases

Managing Director – Mortgage Network

If you are covering the housing announcements in the Spring Statement today, please see the following comment from Gemma Harle, Managing Director of the Intrinsic Mortgage Advice Network, part of Quilter:

"Philip Hammond in the latest Spring Statement said little that is going to directly affect personal finances but despite the incessant cacophony Brexit is creating he did still find time to keep housing on the agenda.

"One of his commitments is the Government’s new £3bn Affordable Homes Guarantee scheme which is aimed at supporting the delivery of around 30,000 affordable homes. Many will say this far too little considering the housing crisis gripping the nation but it is certainly a step in the right direction.

"Any plan which increases the amount of affordable housing is going to be a positive for the whole market and should not immediately be derided. Ultimately, we need a far more innovative plan to tackle the UKs housing problem but we must also find some solace in the fact that despite a relatively non-eventful budget at an incredibly eventful time for Britain, housing is still a priority."
